When we think about Toyota, an automaker originating in Japan, we don't necessarily consider it to be a brand that produces American cars. Edmunds.com on the hand recently recognized Toyota as brand tied with another Japanese automaker for producing the "most American" vehicles. Let's take a look at how these results were determined.

By evaluating the percentage of U.S. parts used, assembly location of the model, and where the engine and transmission originated from, Edmunds was able to rank the various brands. All of this information comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is found on a vehicle's window sticker.

Edmunds Consumer Advice Editor Carroll Lachnit, further explains, "In a world of global supply chains, buying an 'American' car can be difficult. A car's 'American-ness' is often in the eye of the car shopper and the manufacturer. The 2013 Avalon, for example, was designed, engineered and manufactured in the United States and 80 percent of its content is domestic."1

In addition to the Toyota Avalon, the Tacoma was also recognized. The pickup is composed of 75 percent domestic parts. This is followed by the Venza, which was at the top of the list within the wagon segment for being 65 percent domestic.

Perhaps there are more new Toyota models in the greater Reno, NV area that are considered 'American' than you think. To take a closer look, head on over to our Reno Toyota showroom, today. We'd be happy to show you around, schedule test drives, and answer any questions that you may have!
