For years now, the Toyota Tundra has been a stalwart full-size SUV model both here in the Reno, NV area and nationally. The truck has been noted by critics and consumers alike for its high level of efficiency, ease-of-use, and all-around utility. But now, the model has been recognized for something else, as the popular pick up model has been recognized for its towing ability now as well.

Yes indeed, the Tundra was recently recognized by the Auto Writers Association of Texas fr being the only full-size model that is completely compliant with the Society of Automotive Engineers stringent J2807 towing standards as a stand-alone option.

This compliancy is measured in terms of the towing poundage that the model is capable of, and also the engine, transmission, cooling system and axles are all taken into account when this designation is awarded, if at all, to a pickup model. In fact, every towing-capable model within the Toyota new model lineup, even the Sienna minivan model, is J2807-compliant, which is no small feat.

"Toyota owners look to us to develop vehicles that meet the highest safety standards, and our voluntary adoption of J2807 helps us deliver on that promise," says chief engineer of the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, Mike Sweers. "Tundra owners can tow confidently knowing that the published tow rating has been verified by the industry’s foremost engineering authority.  With Tundra, what you see is what you get."1
