The most recent accolade it received was from the 2013 Green Car Guide, a publication released by the Automotive Club of Southern California. Of the top ten green vehicles listed, six of them were from Toyota or its other affiliated brands, Scion and Lexus.
Which model received the coveted number one position on the list? That would be one of our favorites, the Toyota RAV4 EV. This means it was given the best green score, and it was also the highest score that has ever been given by Green Car Guide. Also recognized was the Highlander Hybrid which received the third highest score.
Automotive Research Center Manager and Chief Engineer Steve Mazor explains, "Toyota, partnering with Tesla, has produced an impressive full electric compact SUV that is the top scoring Green Car ever tested by the Auto Club's Automotive Research Center. The RAV4 EV has excellent acceleration, zero tailpipe emissions and a real 100+ mile range, while maintaining roominess and flexibility."1
