If you follow the automotive news gauntlet as closely as we do, you may know that our preferred automaker is hard at work on the next-generation Toyota Prius. While the reimagining of any popular model is always an exciting prospect to cover, the details surrounding this vehicle make us particularly so.
Why? Well, we've been teased sneak peeks at the new Prius now for over two years. The first came at the Detroit Auto Show in 2012, when Toyota unveiled the NS4 Concept. While highly stylized, the design was still a gorgeous foretelling of what we want the new car to resemble.
There's also quite a bit to look forward to on the underpinning front. Toyota has announced the new Prius will run using the brand's Toyota New Global Architecture Platform, which is significantly lighter than in the current model.
Additionally, the engine itself will be getting some treatment, with even higher fuel economy than the current model. Whether this will involve a new battery stack is anyone's guess at this point, what we do know is that Toyota is employing some thermal changes to make the engine more efficient.
We expect to get our first look at the new hybrid sometime later this year--probably either in Frankfurt in September, or LA in November.
In the meantime, there are plenty of new Toyota models for your consideration right here at our Reno, NV dealership. Drop by and see how they mesh with your lifestyle and driving needs.
